Novelist, poet, professor, critic and the author of the most widely read book in African literature (Things Fall Apart) professor Chinua Achebe, has passed on. Professor Achebe died last night, March 21, in a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He had been ill for a while. He was 82 years old.
The legend has gone home. May his soul rest in peace…Amen.
Late last year I picked up and read his amazing homage to Biafra - There was a Country. I read it three times. In fact, I made it a point of duty to tell everyone I knew to read that book. I even gave out a few copies to iROKO colleagues. Truly a sad day.
He lived a full life, 82 is indeed a ripe old age and he made his dent on the universe and of course will forever be remembered. A true legend.
